Surrey Hills Ranmore, Shere Drop Young's Bitter Guest Beer
The building has its origins in the 16th century and boasts beams, flagstones and a large fireplace where a welcoming wood fire burns brightly in winter. Set on a quiet lane adjoining extensive woodland, the area is popular with walkers. There are two traditional bars with a dining room up a few steps. Excellent homemade meals are served each lunchtime 12-2 (2:30 Saturday and Sunday), and from 7-9 (9:30 Friday and Saturday, though not on Sunday evenings). Shove halfpenny can be played. The website claims that the landlord, Giles Madge, even occasionally feigns grumpiness to complete the picture.
