Bertram Bee's at the Crown, to give its full name, is a wine bar, coffee shop and delicatessen set in what was the 19th century Crown pub which closed in 2011, and is named after the landlady's great grandfather. From the car park the first room entered is where the deli is sited and this sells a good range of local cheese, meat, bread and oils. A number of tables are in this area and children are welcome until 7pm. Through this room is the bar area where unfortunately only keg and bottled beers are sold. Tables are a mixture of glass topped ones with coffee beans underneath the glass, and barrels with wooden tops. The bar opens for breakfast until 11:30 and food is then available throughout the day. Lunch is served from 12 and will consist of a number of homemade dishes such as soups and pies plus sandwiches made using artisinal bread. Evening food, from 7pm, consists of sharing platters plus one hot dish such as goulash. Very good coffee and tea are also available throughout the day. Outside is a large and attractive garden. Note that the pub is closed Monday. IN JANUARY 2018 THE OWNERS ANNOUNCED THAT THE PUB HAD CLOSED PERMANENTLY. WE AWAIT POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENTS.
