Named after Sir James Scarlett, the first Baron of Abinger, the pub was built as two cottages in 1620, becoming a pub in 1907. It is the epitome of the traditional country pub with a stone-flagged floor and oak beams. There is a recent extension found behind the impressive inglenook fireplace, creating four drinking areas in all. For those sessions when the pub is open, good quality food is served, lunchtimes 12-2:30 (3 Sunday), and evenings from 6-9. The landlady is Malaysian and dishes from this region are always on sale alongside more traditional fare. Once a month a Malaysian evening is held, details of these are shown on the pub website. Outside is a pleasant seating area, including a sculpture garden. The guest beer will be a seasonal beer from Badger.
