Harveys XX Mild Ale, Hadlow Pale Ale, Sussex Best Bitter, Armada Ale, seasonal beer, Imperial Russian Stout in bottle
A classic Victorian street corner local dating from 1865, the Garland is just south of the town centre. It was originally built as the Anchor but changed its name shortly before Harveys acquired it from Ind Coope in 1992. Originally it was a Mellersh & Neale of Reigate pub. The full range of Harveys ales are sold including every seasonal beer and one-off brews the landlord can get hold of. Eight handpumps dispense these – if there is a ninth beer then it is sold straight from the cellar. The maximum number of cask beers sold at any one time is currently twelve. Even bottled beers have their own menu on the tables. Darts is very popular here, with two boards, one of which is in a separate room that can also be used for functions. Bar billiards is also played. Good value lunchtime food is sold during the week, with traditional Sunday lunches also available. The pub is also close to several late-night eating places. It is worth noting that the Garland is the only pub in this guide serving cask mild all the time. Voted the Camra Surrey and Sussex Pub of the Year in 2002, the Garland is a great pub. Branch Town Pub of the Year 2010. (see above) Symbols explained
