This 1960s bow-windowed building was originally called the Griffin and was built on the bowling green of an earlier pub of the same name. The previous pub had stood nearer the main road and was actually demolished into its own cellars, which were then covered over and became the pub car park! Very typical in design of its time, the inside of the pub consisted of a single gantry and bar in light-coloured wood serving three distinct areas; the main front bar, plus a left-hand adjoining room with two bar billiards tables and a right-hand section used for darts and pool. Outside, a late-period Whitbread hanging sign "Hind's Head" finial and two Whitbread light shades either side of the door to the garden revealed the pub's former ownership. The original plan was to change the name to "The Beeches", only to be thwarted by the lack of such flora in the immediate vicinity. Unfortunately the pub closed in October 2018 and housing is to be built on the site.
