This 1960s bow-windowed building was originally called the Griffin and was built on the bowling green of an earlier pub of the same name. The previous pub had stood nearer the main road and was actually demolished into its own cellars, which were then covered over and is now the pub car park! Very typical in design of its time, the inside of today’s pub consists of a single gantry and bar in light-coloured wood serving three distinct areas – the main front bar, plus a left-hand adjoining room and a right-hand section used respectively for bar billiards and pool. Darts is also played. Outside, a late-period Whitbread hanging sign "Hind’s Head" finial reveals the pub’s former ownership. The original plan was to change the name to "The Beeches", only to be thwarted by the lack of such flora in the immediate vicinity. Only snacks are served.
