The Iron Horse was a symmetrical 1950s pub with red brick ground floor and tile-hung upper storey built by Charrington's to serve the London County Council's post-war Merstham overspill estate. Whilst retaining 3 bars and most of its original fitments, real ale had sadly not been a feature for a number of years; though in one bar beautifully polished handpumps and a copious display of pump-clips serve as a reminder of better days. The name may have alluded to the Croydon, Merstham & Godstone Iron Railway (an extension to the Surrey Iron Railway), though this was a strictly equine-hauled operation. The pub closed in 2009.
