A pleasant brick and tile-hung exterior belied a rather uninspiring interior, in which no original features survived, following savage refits. The name derived from the crop which was grown in the vicinity from the late 18th century and whose oil went to sweet factories in Mitcham. Up to 1922 this pub was owned by the Swan Brewery of Leatherhead until taken over by Mellersh & Neale of Reigate. With the latter's demise in 1938, it operated under the Meux banner, switching to Friary Meux in the late 1950s. Sold off by Carlsberg Tetley in the 1990s, it then traded as a free house. The Mint finally closed in 2007 and is now housing.
