Greene King IPA, Ruddles County, Abbot Ale, seasonal beer
Fully renovated in 2006, parts of this pub date from 1309 and it lays claim to being the oldest in the area - it was originally known as the Maid . The oldest part is on the right hand side but most of the building is of much later construction. Inside the pub is quite upmarket with an emphasis on very good food. However, that is not to say that the local or casual drinker is excluded - far from it. Four real ales are always available, one of which is usually from the Greene King seasonal "stable" and you can expect to find them in very good condition. The smaller front left hand section of the pub is themed to horse racing - prints and photos adorn the walls. In the older section, by the big inglenook, there are many old photos of the pub showing it in its various liveries since its Mellersh & Neale (Reigate Brewery) days. Some nice touches are photos of the pub's interior before the renovations to remind people of how it once was - it is so easy to forget these things! The landlady has an obvious "good eye" for decor and has also sourced all the furnishings herself from local auction houses. Whilst the place looks and feels completely different from its previous incarnation, you get the immediate sensation that this is a friendly place to visit. Outside is a large outside weather-proof patio with powerful heaters has been provided for both smokers and "al fresco" diners. There is a lawned area to the rear of the car park. Food is available at every session from 12-9 Monday, 12-10 Tuesday to Saturday, and from 12-8 on Sundays. (see above) Symbols explained
